There once was a swagman camped by a Billabong
Under the shade of a Coolabah tree
And he sang as he watched and waited till his billy boiled
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me"
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he watched and waited 'til his billy boiled
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
Down came a jumbuck to drink at the water hole
Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him with glee
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tuckerbag
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tuckerbag
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
Down came the Squatter riding on his thoroughbred
Down came Policemen - one, two, three
"Where's the jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?",
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
"Where's the jolly jumbuck you've got in your tuckerbag?",
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
But the swagman he up and he jumped into the water hole
Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree,
And his ghost may be heard as you walk along the Billabong,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me"
Waltzing Matilda, waltzing Matilda
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me
And his ghost may be heard as you walk along the billabong,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me".
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda my darling?
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?
Waltzing Matilda leading the waterbag
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Born and raised in Australia. Drover - it's what I am and what I do. I make my own way, no man hires me and no man fires me.
I fought in the War for "Mother England" - some call it the Great War, but there was nothing great about it. I lost more than you can imagine, but
that's history now and where I'm from we consider that personal.
The Aborignal tribes, the native peoples of Australia, when someone dies, you never speak their name again. I no longer speak the names of my family, taken
from me before their time. In that final loss I lost myself. And so I lost my name.
